The History of Our Building

We started life as Macaulay College out of the old farmhouse kitchen, which was our only indoor space.  In 2010, we were fortunate enough to receive £20,000 in funding to build what is now known as the blue building. It has been our home for 15 years and serves as the hub of the farm. It houses an extremely well-used kitchen and communal space for chatting, playing games, meeting, and crafting. As you can see, it's quite small, with not enough space to accommodate even enough chairs for all of us (up to 25 on a busy day). The team can often be found perching on chair arms or worktops. Our toilets are connected to the blue building in a now 60-year-old portacabin, which has served us well. Attached to the end of that is another second-hand portacabin that houses our highly in-demand "quiet space" (also home to Mozart, our rescued snake) and office.

The New Building

We have long surpassed the capacity of our current building and our portacabin toilets, office, and quiet room are deteriorating. Six years ago, we started exploring the addition of a new toilet block. However, when COVID struck, our focus shifted to just staying open. Once restrictions eased, it became clear that we needed more than just a toilet block; we faced a growing waiting list and limited space. Thus began our planning and fundraising efforts. Now, five months after issuing a tender for this amazing new facility, we are excited to see groundwork underway. Stay tuned to our blog for updates on the build

Meet the Team

As a significant project unfolds on the farm, many new faces are joining us to help turn our dreams into reality. From the unseen work happening underground and behind the walls to the creation of beautiful new spaces, this talented team is bringing it all to life.

Jamie the Joiner

Jamie makes up the smiling duo with Colin but has his bacon rolls stolen by Pip rather than sharing them. These two have done an amazing job in dreadful weather conditions!

Pip

Pippa is in charge of making the build just a little more challenging! She’s a pro at swiping everyone’s lunch, has a knack for trying to jump into the digger bucket, and loves to hide-and-seek right when we’re busy. It’s like she’s on a mission to keep us all on our toes!
